Promoting a Business-Friendly Environment

As the voice of the Battle Creek Area business community, the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce is committed to promoting legislation that will improve our business climate and positively impact our growing economy. Creating a pro-business climate that fosters healthy and vibrant growth is critical to the quality of life enjoyed by our community. Maintaining this quality of life is a shared responsibility that requires the cooperation of our federal and state legislatures, local governing bodies, and Chamber members.

The Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce serves as the community’s advocate for business at the local, state and federal levels, representing the combined strength of our diverse industry sectors. We offer numerous opportunities for business leaders to influence civic, social, and business initiatives that support community growth. Our quarterly Governmental Affairs Breakfast gives our members the chance to dialog with our community's state and federal legislators. Our Government Affairs Committee vigorously studies issues and identifies, prioritizes and recommends policy to our Board of Directors for those issues that affect our local economy, business environment and quality of life. Our special legislative events allow our members to hear from our U.S. Senators and Representatives, and stay on top of important business and civic priorities.

As a part of the Great Lake Metro Chamber Coalition (GLMCC), we lend our voice to that of the significant short term and long term investment and new policy initiatives in five strategic areas: (View our public policy agenda)

  • Federal transportation infrastructure funding and policy
  • A 21st century border with Canada
  • Energy Development
  • Immigration of High-Skilled Talent
  • Water Quality in the Great Lakes

Collaborating with the Brookings Institution and building on the work of the Great Lakes Commission and other regional groups, the chambers are recommending federal adoption of a strategic cluster of projects that will put thousands of people immediately back to work and will also fuel the region’s longer term economic transformation. The most immediate recommendations revolve around transportation and watershed restoration projects. A list of those projects is available. In total, the initiatives recommended by the chambers will result in well over $100 billion long term economic benefit to the region and nation, as well as hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Get involved! You can join us for one of our Governmental Affairs Breakfasts or other legislative events, join the Government Affairs Committee, or just pick up the phone or send us an email. We want to hear what you have to say!
