Objective
The objective of the public policy department of the Battle Creek
Area Chamber of Commerce is to impact decisions at the federal,
state, local legislative and administrative levels.
This
enables Chamber members and the business community to reduce
costs, operate efficiently and profitably, and contribute
to the economic vitality of the Battle Creek area.

Department
Components
The public policy department is comprised of several
components. They each have a distinct function and are coordinated
through a staff liaison

Policy Committee
2007 Meeting Schedule
This Committee's
functions are to assist staff in:
 |
monitoring,
formulating and evaluating legislative issues; |
 |
make
recommendations and provide support for candidates/ballot
proposals; |
 |
facilitate
political forums for community awareness/involvement |
 |
foster the relationship between the community and
its valued military and government installations
|
 |
work
to strengthen the relationship between the community and government
employees/employers. |
Activities
of this committee include:
Candidate interviews and forums (post
primary during the election cycle)
Rap With Your Reps
Meetings
Other special events, and ongoing dialogue involving key stakeholders

Political
Action Committee (BAC-PAC)
Committee members work to raise funds
to be given to state and local candidates or ballot proposal efforts.
The
objective is to raise and distribute money (through the Chamber's
PAC) to further the mission of the Public Policy Committee and
the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce.

Military
Affairs Committee (MAC)
This committee's
mission is to foster the relationship between the community and
its valued military and government installations.
Activities
of this committee include:
 |
Promote
a new community awareness of the scope and positive impact
of the military installations in the greater Battle Creek
area and to promote a feeling of "ownership" of these organizations
within the community. |

To
support existing efforts to put on and market the Armed Forces
Day luncheon |
 |
To
recognize and support military associated youth programs in
the area. |
 |
To investigate award programs. |
 |
To help the military "network" with the business community.

 |
To
improve the area's Memorial Day and Veteran's Day celebrations.
