Blue Care Network
of Michigan in the HMO Marketplace -
New Deductible Products That Offer Customers More Options
Blue Care
Network of Michigan (BCN) has increased its product portfolio
for area businesses by introducing deductibles into its plan
options. This is the first product by BCN that is deductible-based.
The effective date for the new products was January 1, 2005.
There
will be several standard deductible arrangements, according
to Paula Brawdy, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Blues.
"In response to customer demand, we've developed three standard
plans with deductibles which have been added to the small
group menu," she explains. The deductible arrangements include
a $250 per member/$500 per family/$500 per member/$1,000 per
family and $1,000 per member/$2,000 per family.
For
groups with 100 or more enrolled contracts, the new deductible
riders can be added to the BCN 10 Certificate to build a custom
product. The BCN 10 Certificate is the base for this product;
no other BCN certificates apply. For groups under 100, BCN
is adding three deductible plans to the small group menu.
The deductible plans will not be available to Medicare members.
Brawdy says the plans were developed to appeal to groups that
want to offer HMO coverage at the lowest possible premium
cost. "They also expand groups" coverage options so BCN can
offer plans similar to those offered by other HMOs.
BCN
will administer the deductibles similarly to Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Michigan's policies with the following differences:
-
Preventive services and routine maternity care are not included
in the deductible
-
Behavioral and substance abuse services, laboratory, durable
medical equipment and prosthetics and orthotics are also
excluded from the deductible.
