Employers invited to support
National Alcohol Screening Month
04/23/06
April is National Alcohol Screening Month and Blue Cross Blue
Shield and Blue Care Network of Michigan support this community
outreach, screening and education initiative.
Since
most of those with drinking problems also have jobs, employers
are uniquely positioned to change the way alcohol problems
are addressed. We encourage you to share this information
and promote participation in the screening process among your
employees.
Screenings
are free and anonymous. The screening is an opportunity for
members to:
-
Learn about alcohol and health
-
Complete a brief screening questionnaire
-
View a video
-
Read educational materials
-
Speak one-on-one with a health professional
For
more information or to locate a free and confidential alcohol
screening site, see the National Alcohol Screening Day Web
site at www.nationalalcoholscreeningday.org or call 1-800-253-7658.
The national screening day was April 7, but we encourage you
to raise awareness among your employees throughout April and
the rest of the year.
Members
can also use BlueHealthConnection® to obtain more
information about dealing with alcohol abuse issues. BCBSM
members can access the BlueHealthConnection Web site at www.bcbsm.com
and BCN
members can access BlueHealthConnection at www.MiBCN.com.
The site includes features such as a free health risk appraisal,
a searchable medical library and descriptions of alcohol screening
tests and personalized health information.
BCBSM
and Blue Choice® Point of Service members can also
research alcohol-related issues on Blue HealthLine by calling
1-800-811-1764.
BCN members seeking treatment for alcohol dependency can call
BCN's 24-hour behavioral health and substance abuse service
at 1-800-482-5982.
Remember,
all BlueHealthConnection interventions and information are
designed to support the advice and treatment received from
health care providers, not to replace it.
