The
Friday July 29th's BRAC-fest Rally to Support the 110th Fighter
Wing and the Air National Guard base was a tremendous success thanks
to the support of this community and many hard working volunteers.
Fridays rally welcomed BRAC Commissioner Samuel Skinner in a warm,
patriotic and memorable way.
On
behalf of the City of Battle Creek and the Battle Creek Chamber
of Commerce, we'd like to give special recognition to the following
contributors. Sherri and Gordon Dull of Flag Force One for organizing
287 volunteers in a human flag, pictured beautifully in Saturday
July 30th Battle Creek Enquirer thanks to a crane thoughtfully provided
by Buck's Crane. Other donors supporting the Human Flag were: Hunt
Club, US Lumber. Bauchmen Hebble Funeral Home, American Legion Post
298, Women American Legion Post 298 and Sons of the American Legion
Post 298, Bucks Crane, Precision Industries, Kellogg Community Credit
Union, Gordon Rosberg, Sheri Swain, Republican Party, WMU College
of Aviation Line Dogs. Community Integrated Recreation and C12 Inner
City Program bused volunteers to participate in the flag - helping
make history in Battle Creek.
The
WMU College of Aviation was a great host. Special thanks to Dave
Powell, Joe Guilfoyle and Tracey Henry of WMU. Kellogg Arena and
G2 (G-Squared) Productions provided the staging, sound system and
patriotic music, and Besco Water Treatments kept our crowd healthy
and cool with bottled ice water.
The
media did an excellent job promoting and covering the rally. Thanks
to WIN98.5 and WBCK for live broadcasts, AccessVision, WWMT, WOTV,
Fox17, and, of course, the Enquirer for the stirring images.
Thanks
also to the many volunteers and workers not mentioned here, who
helped make this a successful event. Our rally did what we needed
it to do. We welcomed Skinner in a memorable way, demonstrated our
support for the Air National Guard Base and sent a clear message
that the base should be removed from the list for closure.
