In 2000,
the Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce established the Battle
Creek Area Chamber Foundation to develop a legal framework for
the Chamber's charitable efforts and allow us to creatively
address the portion of our mission devoted to producing a positive
economic environment. Our Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 that supports
the civic and educational programming of the Chamber by allowing
tax- advantaged contributions by corporations and individuals.
These contributions are used solely defray the costs of the
programs supported by and housed in our Foundation. Chamber
members' dues or other Chamber revenues do not support the Foundation,
and there is no independent source of revenue for the Foundation
other than the approximately $500,000 we raise annually to support
our programs.
The Battle
Creek Area Chamber Foundation is committed to supporting programs
and creating opportunities that enhance the economic landscape
in our community and promote the concept of civic leadership.
The Chamber Foundation administers well-know community programs
such as the Taste of Battle Creek, ATHENA TM, the International
Festival of Lights, the Cereal Festival and World's Longest
Breakfast Table, and the Silent Observer/Fugitive of the Month/
Fast 50 programs. In addition, The Chamber Foundation's Business
Store and Business Growth Center provide the needed resources,
training, and support necessary to turn startups, fledging entrepreneurs
and transitional business into successful business organizations.
Most recently,
the Foundation added the Battle Creek Self Employment Project
(a microenterprise development program) and Battle Creek Leadership
for Community Change to its programs.
